The words for this song were written a long time ago, in response to heartbreak. I was trying to understand. To make sense of what was then my first complex, nuanced, layered relationship, and its inevitable conclusion. Revisiting them now, around 7 years later, they have taken on a broader meaning. They speak to a more universal experience, sung by someone who has had time to move through the machinations of various relationships and who has a deeper understanding of their nature, and of the ways we can change ourselves for them - sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.
